Paragraph: Language Movement
The Language Movement of 1952 was a protest against the government's decision to declare Urdu as the sole national language of Pakistan, ignoring the majority Bengali-speaking population in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The people, especially the students, protested peacefully to demand that Bengali be recognized as one of the state languages. On 21st February 1952, police opened fire on the protesters, resulting in several deaths.
This tragic incident led to the official recognition of Bengali as one of the state languages and marked a crucial point in the struggle for linguistic rights. The event is remembered every year, with people across the country and the world honoring the martyrs and their contributions to preserving the Bengali language and culture.
